Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) is a leading institution in the system of higher education in the Republic of Kazakhstan and one of the top universities in Central Asia. It was named after the eastern philosopher and scholar Al-Farabi. It is one of the largest universities in the country. Having been the oldest university in the region, KazNU will be celebrating 85th year in 2019.
Today KazNU’s alumni includes a large number of ministers, governors, top managers, members of Parliament, CEOs and Olympic Champions.
The university was the first laureate of the Presidential Award of the Republic of Kazakhstan ‘For Achievements in the Area of Quality’ and the Laureate Award of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) for achievements in the area of quality and services in the history of the country.
KazNu is ranked 220 in the QS World University Rankings 2018/19 and 11th in the Emerging Europe and Central Asia (EECA) University Rankings making it Kazakhstan’s highest ranked university.
The university is a member of the following international organizations: The International Association of Universities, European Society for Engineering Education, The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience and International Observatory on Academic Ranking and Excellence, and the Indo-US Collaboration for Engineering Education.

The university is located in an elite region on a territory covering a large area. The university has the necessary infrastructure and takes into account all the needs and requirements of the students – academics, sports, recreation, medical and other aspects of the students life.

The campus of KazNU is also well-known for its greenery. Educational laboratories, library, hostel, reading rooms, multimedia & computer classes, internet cafes, first-aid, cinema and post office are located in the university campus.
Highlights
The university consists of 13 academic departments that offer more than 200 degree programs (Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. levels) to more than 18,000 students.

All undergraduate and postgraduate programs of KazNU are accredited by the leading European agencies such as ASIIN, FIBAA, AQ and ACQUIN.

The University’s Faculty of Medicine was launched in 2015. Today Al-Farabi KazNU has a total of 16 schools which offer 82 BA, 102 MA and 63 PhD programs in engineering, natural sciences, humanitarian and social sciences, medical sciences and economics.

Also Al-Farabi KazNU covers a wide spectrum of fundamental and applied research which are based at 8 research institutes, 25 centers, 2 National Level Labs and in Regional Technopark.
